some of my favourite quotes

If you can meet with triumph and disaster, and treat those two imposters just the same.

Confidence, like art, never comes from having all the answers; it comes from being open to all the questions.

Forbes quote of the day:
"The only way to get rid of a temptation is to yield to it. Resist it, and your soul grows sick with longing for the things it has forbidden to itself."
Oscar Wilde

I keep coming back to you in my head, but you couldn't know that, and I have no carbons.

I'm starting to feel like this is all a dream.

Time's running irregularly; fast when you're here, slow when you're away.

"You think I like him?"

"I think you know the answer deep inside... you're just waiting for some sort of confirmation."

But I'm only a dreamer, and time is slipping away.

paris in december; this was taken enroute to gare du bercy

Hello, world.

It's only been a week I know. Yet today - Friday - is my most free day! Except later I'm going out for supper with my friend heh. Every day has been crazy for me, which is great - I've finally broke my own record and left the office at TWO THIRTY (YES 2.30) AM IN THE MORNING, and all my waking minutes are spent either in meetings, at work, at school or at home doing more work. Then after that I'm so tired I just plonk on my bed and sleep :)

And the reason I'm online now is I'm trying to figure out how to do this biology question for my fifth module, but NEVERMIND I can ask my super smart friend later :) yippees!

There are five clocks where I'm working, showing B/oston, L/ondon, T/okyo, S/ydney and S/ingapore time. And I always tell XY how when she's in London, I'll sometimes look at the L/ondon clock and think about her, what time it is in her place and what she was possibly doing. I actually do the same for the B/oston clock for people like yw, then S/ydney for fel, my cousin and all my other friends in Australia who are much missed.

Meanwhile, thank you everyone - everyone who has tolerated all my nonsense and my drama, and for having lunches with me and all my project and competition teammates (we made the first cut!) for being very kind and understanding of my schedule. And also for amazing classmates and even more amazing rides home where I can just fall asleep in the car when all the guys are discussing army and THINKING THAT I CANNOT HEAR THEM. I cannot ask for more :)

Thank youuu you are very much appreciated. Now I shall get back to my work again.

we're running out of time

Downtown Manhattan, New York City. (this is -10 degrees celsius in january 08)

“A year, ten years from now, I'll remember this; not why, only that we were here like this, together.” - Adrienne Rich

I only need you to tell me that I have been brave, that it's okay; that you'll be here somehow.

Then maybe, maybe, I wouldn't feel so alone.

(No I'm not back. Will be back 10th May.)

until we meet again
Monday, March 10, 2008 3:40 AM

I switched back to my old notebook where I keep check of all my assignments because I realise that the new one I was using doesn't panic-induce me the way the old one used to.

I just realised what insanity I signed up for - my current school's Dean's Office just approved me - yes me - to go to swiss to study for a semester. The insane part is I am 19. And I will be studying Year 3 courses without any foundation whatsoever.

So I don't know - I don't know if the Dean's office people are actually going to postpone my exchange for a semester, which has its pros and cons. I want to go next sem, leh. You know there are already people who say they will miss me HAHA. And it'll be more grand for me to leave now than for me to leave later when everyone else is leaving. I'm kidding.

I was talking to this friend of mine whom I've not talked to for like... since last October. And I asked him about his gf whom he just broke up with, and he asked me about mine - okay I'm still single please - so I told him lor. Single lor.

"What! Why?"

"No time, lor. I work and study at the same time leh."

"So Singaporean not to have time for a relationship."

"It's not true alot of my friends got attached since January this year!"

Okay I'm actually a very happy crab now lah even though I cried TWICE while watching T.he L.eap Y.ears two times :) First time I cried buckets, second time not so bad at least I didn't cry at the fortune teller bit. But omg I wouldn't want to wait 4 years - or how many cycles of 4 years - she did while she waited for him.

And in view of how behind I am with work and my busy busy schedule, I am going to announce... that I am leaving and will be back on May 10th. Mark that date on your calendars please. So I'm going to resist blogging no matter whatever happens these few weeks (and these few weeks is going to be exciting I can tell).

In the spirit of me leaving here is some proof that people love to discuss econs online:

OK I'm off to do damage control I will not appear on MSN for some time (I hope). Byebye until May then. :)

When you feel like you have all the answers, life comes and changes all the questions.

this is 7.10pm from office

same time, vertical view

almost 1030pm or after 1030, i can't remember, still working...

the world is still awake

I tried to get a picture of this old lady with flowers (you can only see the flowers in here, left) but it's hard to shoot moving people haha. I thought it was really sweet, but I dunno why she's in campus.

Friday I went out with the girls to the now very different jp. Omg food yum. I'm going to learn how to make claypot rice before I leave. Yings very kindly taught me everything I need to know about producer theory that my econs professor refuses to answer me, and convinced me to love MIT professors Pindyck and Rubinfeld again. :)

You know, I still remember when we used to know how to tell apart stars from satellites. Now, late at night when I get home from work, the sky is full of them...and I can hardly tell the difference.

If you are not too long, I will wait here for you all my life
- Oscar Wilde

budapest, hungary in winter 2004

V.anessa & I decided to go for dinner & watch T.he L/eap Y!ears after our first midterm paper this evening, and got W.ei L.in to fetch us there :) It was a bit of a squeeze with N.eil, K.el and the two of us at the back (WL's gf sitting in front) but since we have free transport we weren't complaining :D Originally they wanted to go to holland v but we ate dinner at v!vo.

Anyway the movie was really sad - I practically cried after the first two minutes all the way till the end. So embarrassing haha. Luckily the guys didn't join us for movie.

Sigh I'm going to miss my class a lot when I leave. ):

at night when you are sleeping

Work has been good. Learning curve is steep, but it's interesting. Apart from spending a copious amount of time at the office (latest is 10+PM only) and neglecting school work altogether, I've been doing nothing during term break. :)

Supposed to celebrate friend's birthday this weekend, but I'm choosing to be a hermit. Sadness. I talked to a friend last night about how I'm leaving and how all my friends (YES ALL OF THEM) are betraying me by leaving a semester later. (To them, summer >> winter). Then they say I'm going to be lonely soul for 1 year cos when I come back in January NOBODY WILL BE IN CAMPUS.

Ah but I don't want to postpone exchange but at the same time I want to watch a match at Old Trafford (cos N.eil's going to UManchester, I can make great trip to London to meet xy, Cambridge to meet my seniors and Manchester to meet him! Then we can all travel up to Sweden, Belgium, Germany and Vienna to meet all our other friends. The problem is we aren't as rich as to travel that much.)

* * *
This bit really made my day:

"And your display pic looks beautiful. Did you know that?"

Is this a ploy to make me happy?

"(In case you were wondering, I'm serious)"

"I knew it"

* * *
When I don't think about you, which is quite often now, I start to dream of you. Happened again last night; I so didn't want to, cos today all I could think of is you. But I rather dream of you.

You're much nicer in your dreams than in reality.
